About The Founder

Sundeep Kapila

Sundeep Kapila has worked with McKinsey & Company for 7 years, where he specialized in the Healthcare and Development sectors. During his time at McKinsey he developed a keen interest in the development space, noticing several inefficiencies in the health care supply chain. He felt it could be optimized to lower the cost of healthcare delivery for the low-income segments. He left McKinsey, in Jan 2008 to pursue his passion in healthcare for the masses. He co-founded Swasth in 2008, with the goal of making high quality healthcare accessible and affordable for the masses.

Sundeep holds a B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Bombay, M.D. in Alternative Medicine from the Indian Board of Alternative Medicine, a Diploma of Associateship from the Insurance Institute of India and 2 years of Law Studies from Mumbai University. Show More

Summary

India’s healthcare scenario has seen significant improvements and innovations in the past few years along various dimensions. This includes the expanding network of private healthcare providers, a competitive pharmaceutical industry as well as dynamic health insurance products.

These benefits have been largely accessible and affordable only to the high-income segments until now. Our aim is to extend these benefits to the low-income segments and create a holistic health system that enables harmony between dignity for patients and opportunities for providers.

The core of Swasth Foundation has remained the same, but the organisation’s services have transitioned in the last few years. Through our experimental projects in the field of health insurance in partneship with ‘Swayam Shikshan Prayog’ in Maharashtra (supported by the International Labour Organisation), the ‘Haryana Construction Workers and Other Workers Welfare Board’ as well as with the Government of Delhi, we learnt the value of primary healthcare service delivery. This led us to establish the Swasth India Medical Centers to address the challenge of impoverishment among low-income segments due to health shocks. Show More
