Mission

The number of residents around the Deepashram is 83 in total. At present 46 orphans, abandoned, homeless and physically and mentally challenged boys or better differently able inmates find a home and shelter here. Their age varies from 8 to 35 yrs. Most of them suffer from epilepsy and need a daily medication. These boys have nobody and most of them are not self-sufficient and need our help, love and care.

About The Founder

St. Thomas

On the 3rd July, 1994, the feast of St. Thomas the apostle of India, Fr. Sebastian M.C. the Superior General and the society member brothers started a community in the area of Sec.4 in Gurugram, Haryana, India. Deepashram which means ‘House of Light’. Deepashram is registered with ‘The Missionary Brothers of Charity Contemplative’ as a society with the Indian Government, in the state of Haryana.

We are known in the Roman Catholic Arch Diocese of New Delhi as the Missionaries of Charity Brothers Contemplative of Mother Teresa of Kolkata.

On the 18th November, 1995 the building is inaugurated by our Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata and blessed by the present Archbishop Rt. Rev. Vincent Concessao, and the Auxiliary Bishop of New Delhi. Summary

Established on 3rd July 1994 in Gurgaon, Deepashram shelters and cares for at present 53 mentally and/or physically handicapped boys and men ranging in age from 10-35 years old. Deepashram is run by the Society of the Missionaries of Charity Brothers of Mother Teresa of Calcutta.The center works to rehabilitate and reintegrate into society children with mild mental retardation through education and training. However, many of the boys lack the percentage of mobility that allows autonomy; thus they require constant care from Deepashram staff and volunteers.Deepashram depends on contributions from collaborators and benefactors for the daily upkeep of the center and physical and medical needs of the boys, which include check-ups, neurological screenings, psychological assessments, and physiothrapy.
