Mission

In 1937 this home had 134 inmates. From 1939 onwards local people started to support this home through cash and kind donations. this institution has reached its present shape with 500 inmates of whom two third of them are female. Show More

About The Founder

Summary

A lady social worker found 7 disabled lepers under a tree in the year 1933. She brought them to the knowledge of General Terence Keyes, a British resident of Hyderabad and founder of the Secunderabad Temperance Association. The aim of this association was to control alcoholism in India, Being a person with social responsibility, he donated 2 acres of land in Bansilalpet to build a home for the Disabled. An anonymous lady donated 10,000 rupees to construct building, Philanthropists from Hindu, Muslim, Parsee and Christian communities came together and formed a managing committee.

The lady social worker moved to this building along with 7 disabled lepers in 1934. It was hard for her to look after the lepers. Bishop Vismara of Hyderabad was from Italy, He discussed this situaion with nuns from Italy working in Hyderabad. They arrived at a practical decision to send 2 Italian nuns from St. Ann of Providence congregation. Thus from the beginning nuns belonging to Catholic Church are giving their selfless services to this Home for the Disabled. To give church related spiritual prayer services to nuns a priest from Bishop’s house used to come daily in the morning. From this beginning till now the original secular nature of this institution is kept up. The board members and general body members of this trust are secular members. Show More
