About The Founder

Rahim Shaik

Rahim Shaik, the founder of Need Base India, has been working in the areas of child care and protection for more than 15 years now. As a member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at Bangalore between 2007 and 2010, he has been exposed to the challenging circumstances under which children tend to live on the streets. He was nominated by the Department of Women and Child, Karnataka State.
With more than a decade’s experience of managing projects at Sathi, an NGO working towards rescuing and rehabilitating runaway children, Rahim had a strong orientation towards the issues faced by children much before getting nominated as a member of the Child Welfare Committe. The stint at CWC gave him a better understanding and knowledge of using the existing legal and regulatory framework to rehabilitate street children.

Summary

Need Base India (A foundation for Child Care and Development) is a non profit organization started with the intention to work on issues of care, protection and education for the street and vulnerable children and children out of school. It was setup in Dec 2009.

We launched a project for the rehabilitated street children, called Lakshya Udaan Home for Boys. The genesis of this program can be traced to Need Base India’s ‘Urban Deprived Children’ program. 45 children were initially admitted to our School Motivation camps held under the Urban Deprived Children program.

During the course of the camp, Need Base India realized that 30 children from the group came from highly deprived and dysfunctional backgrounds, making it impossible for them to lead a normallife, if left on their own. A need for intervention beyond a motivation camp was felt to ensure the children were given care, protection and education.

NBI discussed this with Lakshya Changing Lives and decided to start Lakshya Udaan home. Located in the Government School premises at Siddhapura, Bangalore, the residential home currently houses 30 underprivileged boys, giving them care, protection and education. Show More
