About The Founder

Rahim Shaik

Rahim Shaik, the founder of Need Base India, has been working in the areas of child care and protection for more than 15 years now. As a member of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at Bangalore between 2007 and 2010, he has been exposed to the challenging circumstances under which children tend to live on the streets. He was nominated by the Department of Women and Child, Karnataka State.
With more than a decade’s experience of managing projects at Sathi, an NGO working towards rescuing and rehabilitating runaway children, Rahim had a strong orientation towards the issues faced by children much before getting nominated as a member of the Child Welfare Committe. The stint at CWC gave him a better understanding and knowledge of using the existing legal and regulatory framework to rehabilitate street children.

Summary

Need Base India (A foundation for Child Care and Development) is a non profit organization started with the intention to work on issues of care, protection and education for the street and vulnerable children and children out of school. It was setup in Dec 2009.
Need Base India works with those families who do not have the capacity in bringing-up their children for whatever may be the reason. Under such circumstances one cannot expect that the children will be safe and also opportunity for keeping the child and family together may not be possible by considering the child rights perspective. So to ensure care and protection, we are running three residential centers at Bangalore in the Govt. School premises.

Sneh ghar another residential home for underprivileged boyâ€s viz. street children, runaways, orphans and so on. This program is supported by Rainbow Foundation India, Hyderabad. It is currently located in the Government School Premises, Shantinagar in Bangalore. The home houses 40 boys currently and at present they are offering stay, care and bridge teaching to the boys.

We are operating Rainbow Home for girls at Jalahalli Village, Sneh Ghar for boys at Shanthinagar and Lakshya Udaan Home for boys at Siddhapura, behind Lal bagh, Bangalore.

In addition to this, we are running two Bridge School Programs for the out of school children by covering 100 children in two locations. One program at Govt. School, Rachenahalli and another at Govt. School, Jeedi Mara, Bangalore. Overall we are helping around 250 children through our project in each year.
