About The Founder

Hermann Gmeiner

The first SOS Children's Village was founded by Hermann Gmeiner, an Austrian philanthropist , in 1949 in Imst, Austria. Since then, the organization has been active and expanding throughout the world. At present, SOS Children's Villages is active in over 133 countries with over 500 SOS Children's Villages and 400 SOS Youth Facilities striving for the welfare of the children in need of care and protection.
In India, the organization caters to over 24,000 children and there are 32 SOS Children's Villages in 22 states in India. Show More

Summary

SOS Children's Village Bangalore which is spread over an area of six acres was established in 1989 and is located at Hulimavu, near 'Meenakshi Temple' on the city's outskirts. Since then Children's Village Bangalore has been providing Family Based Care (FBC) to many children in need.
SOS Children's Village Bangalore is well equipped with social amenities and educational & medical facilities to take care of children in need. Regular co-curricular activities are organized for the kids such as classical dance, instrumental music, vocal music, drawing & painting; Karate classes are also held on a regular basis. Sports such as table tennis, cricket, athletics, volley ball, badminton is being promoted regularly. Various programs such as personality development programs, career guidance prgrams are organized periodically.

We work in the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and we promote these rights through our flagship programmes, namely the Family Based Care and the Family Strengthening Programme. Show More
