About The Founder
Late Padma Bhushan
BGMS was introduced as a central government scheme by the late Yashodhara Dasappa, a social reformer, recipient of Padma Bhushan award and the first woman cabinet minister in Karnataka, and late C. Sharada. As it was a central government-sponsored scheme, such centres were set up in all states across the country in 1958.
Summary
The Bharatiya Grameen Mahila Sangh is a not-for-profit, non political and non sectarian National Organization, founded in 1955, with Branches in all states across India. It is affiliated to the Associated Country Women of the world, which in turn is a consultative body for UNO, UNESCO, WHO, ILO.
The Karnataka State Branch was founded in 1960 by Late Padma Bhushan Smt. Yashodhara Dasappa and Late Smt. C. Sharada.
BGMS is registered under the Societies of Registration Act.
The Primary goal of BGMS is the welfare and upliftment of Women, Children, aged and partially impaired.
